Bertha H. Gilmartin of Dorchester, a retired Boston schoolteacher, died Thursday [6 Jan 2000] in the Milton Health Care Facility. She was 92. Ms. Gilmartin was born in Boston and graduated from the Mather School. She then received both her bachelor's and master's in education degrees from Boston Teachers' College. Ms. Gilmartin worked for the Boston public school system for more than 40 years. She taught American and modern European history as well as ancient government in the East Boston High School before retiring in 1968. She was a member of the First Parish Church in Dorchester for more than 50 years. Ms. Gilmartin was also a member of the Bethany Shrine in Quincy and the Milton chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
