The obituary for Edward in the Youngstown Vindicator on March 7, 1946 reads as follows:

Patrolman Higgins dies in Hospital

Patrolman Edward Higgins, aged 55, of 115 Upland Avenue, veteran Youngstown Policeman, died suddenly at 7:45 pm Wednesday in St Elizabeth Hospital from a heart attack.

Mr Higgins became ill in the kitchen of his home as he helped his son with his homework. He walked to the living room and collapsed in a chair. He was taken by the municipal ambulance to the hospital.

Mr Higgins was born in Youngstown, a son of James and Sarah Ryan Higgins. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1423. He was a member of St Edward Church, and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.

He leaves his wife, the former Nell Halloran; one son, Thomas, at home; a sister Mrs Frank Talbot and two brothers, Frank M and James L, all of Youngstown. A second son, William, died in an accident at Camp Hood, Texas two years ago.

The body is at the Higgins Funeral Home. Friends may call there Friday evening. Funeral services will be held Monday, but arrangements are incomplete.
