NAPPANEE -- Howard K. Slabaugh, 83, of 25521 County Road 54, died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday in his home. Mr. Slabaugh was a retired farmer and served for 17 years as a Union Township trustee. He was born April 2, 1909, in Nappanee and was a lifelong resident. On Oct. 5, 1930, in Nappanee, he married Vanda Geyer. She died Oct. 12, 1989. Surviving are two daughters, Alice Hartman of Albuquerque, N.M., and Donna Cooper of Elkhart; a son, Arlen of Nappanee; and a sister, Mary Morehouse of Milford. A son Blake, preceded him in death. He was a member of Union Center Church of the Brethren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Thompson & Yoder Funeral Home. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Elkhart Community Hospice.
