DALHART - James E. Amyx, 75, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church by Hass Funeral Home.
Mr. Amyx was born in Ochiltree County and at an early age moved to Dalhart with his family. He was in the first XIT pageant at age 8, playing the role of Colonel Goodnight. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps.
He had lived in the Era community near Gainesville, where he and his father were involved in the building of a dairy barn. In 1949 he and his wife purchased the barn.
He was a member of Era Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was member and past president of the Era Community Improvement Club. He retired in 1979 and returned to Dalhart in 1980.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dalhart and served as director and teacher in the Sunday school department.
He married Ida May McClellan in 1946 at Dalhart.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Amyx of San Angelo and Danny Amyx of Coppell; a daughter, Donna Otts of Gainesville; and five grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Memorial Park Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 2005, Dalhart, TX 79022.
