Funeral services for Lee Martin Bailey, 60, of Cairo, GA, are at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Cairo, GA. Rev. Carl Harrell will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Bailey passed away at his home in Grady County, GA, on Monday, November 9, 2015.

Active pallbearers will be Tommy Hopkins, Steve Miller, Carl Harrison, Ken Harper, Dan Broome and Kevin Chason. Honorary pallbearers will be all those who loved him.

Lee Martin Bailey was born in Augusta, Georgia, March 24, 1955, to Dr. and Mrs. Bill Bailey. His family relocated to Cairo in 1956. Lee graduated from Cairo High School in 1973. He attended the Art Institute of Atlanta and earned an A.A. degree in Photography. Returning to Cairo, Lee opened a photography studio. After being asked to be a substitute teacher at Washington Middle School, Lee developed a love for teaching. He furthered his education at FAMU, earning a Master’s Degree in Vocational Education and an Education Specialist Degree from Albany State University. Lee began his teaching career at Thomasville High School and served as the sponsor for the Domestic Exchange. There, he met his wife, Cecelia. Lee then transferred to Cairo High School as a Technical Education teacher. He later returned to Thomas County as the Vocational Director and Assistant Principal. He was an integral part of the design and construction of the PREP Academy. Lee eventually became an assistant superintendent for Thomas County Schools. Lee made many friends during his tenure at THS and TCCHS. His proudest career moment was being hired as the Grady County School Superintendent. He was back in the county where he attended school from first grade to graduation. Lee was an accomplished carpenter and musician.

Survivors include: wife, Cecelia Martin Bailey of Cairo, GA; son, Brian Bailey (Ashley) of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Emily Aldrich (Hunter) of Wake Forest, NC; father, Bill Martin Bailey of Cairo, GA; sister, Lynn Weigly (Mark) of Cairo, GA; and a host of extended loving family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gwen McCorkle Bailey and a sister, Kathy Bailey.
