Army Sgt 1st Class Villa was assigned to the Area Support Group (CFLCC), Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. Villa died from a non-combat related cause (under investigation) in Dubai. Ruben was raised in El Paso and graduated from Bel Air High School in 1988 where he played on the varsity soccer team and in the orchestra. He was also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. After graduation, he joined the Army where he proudly served for 18 years. He had previously served in Iraq from 95-96 and was about to end his current tour of duty. Although his Army job designation was veterinarian, his duties also included those of environmental control officer. Veterinarians over there are sent to deal with the locals' animals. They also inspect the drinking water and make sure there are no airborne diseases that will affect the soldiers or the locals. Ruben was due to arrive back home the first week of September. He is survived by his wife Cecilia, a daughter, two stepdaughters, and a stepson.
