Mary Luvina (Hyde) McDaniel Brooks is the only child of Roscoe Cyrus Hyde and Zilla Anna (Honiter) Hyde. Born on a farm near Brock in Union Township, Mary's father died when she was only a year old. She was raised by her mother with help from her uncle Parley Clifton Honiter. On July 9, 1916, Mary married Ernest Edwin McDaniel, son of Lewis "Daws" and Della Mae (Paris) McDaniel in Scotland County, Missouri. The couple began their life together in Union Township and started their family there with the birth of Mona Marie and Roscoe Lewis McDaniel. Due to Mary's health, they spent some years in the west, living in Colorado and New Mexico. They later returned to the midwest and spent many years living in Carthage, Illinois. Around 1960, they returned to Scotland County, Missouri, and in 1963 moved to Cedar Lane Farm in Union Township -- the farm where Mary was born. Following Ernest's death in 1974 Mary married James Delbert Brooks on December 4, 1977, in Memphis, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1980. She spent her final years living in Memphis.
