Evelyn Martha Bloxsom was the first child born to Anna Hayden (Broadwater) and Woodman Bloxsom on August 17, 1902 in Gloucester City, New Jersey. She had four siblings: Edwin John b. 1907, Elbert Woodman b. 1909, Robert G. b. 1912 and Margaret Irene b. 1915.

Evelyn and Howard Murphy, son of Mary Emma (Shaw) and Robert Solomon Murphy, were married by Rev. W. Earle Zimmerman in the parsonage of First Methodist Episcopal Church, Gloucester City on June 24, 1922. Their honor attendants were Howard's twin Grace Hannah and Alfred Ewart

Evelyn and Howard were the parents of two daughters, Muriel Evelyn born in December 1922 and Elizabeth "Bette" Jane born in November 1928. Prior to giving birth to her second child, Evelyn developed a blister on her foot and despite family advice to have it taken care of before the birth, she did not have it treated. On November 28, 1928, ten days after Bette Jane was born, Evelyn died of blood poisoning.

Evelyn is buried in Union Cemetery on Powell Street in Gloucester City with her parents and baby brother Elbert Woodman in the Bloxsom family plot.
