Shepherd E. Stivers Jr., 81, of 1945 Blackmore St., died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Waddy, Ky., the son of Shepherd and Minnie Sailor Stivers. He was a retired U.S. Postal Service employee with 26 years of service. He was a member of the Indiana National Guard; a member of the Madison Eagles Lodge; a life member of the Madison Moose Lodge; a member of the American Legion, Jefferson Post 9; and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1969. He was a U.S. Army Field Artillery veteran of World War II.

Surviving are two sisters, Jean Nay and Anita Perry, both of Madison; and one aunt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma L. Siebenthal Stivers, on Aug. 20, 2000; two sisters, Virginia Wilking, in 1972, and Frances Basham; one brother, Harold Stivers; and one infant daughter, Janice Stivers, in 1944.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Vail-Holt Funeral Home Madison Chapel, with burial in Fairmount Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the honor guard of the American Legion, Jefferson Post 9.
