William Dean Whitfield, 82, of 1050 Wilkins Road, passed away Sunday, November 8th, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Whitfield was born in Jacksonville, Florida on March 8, 1933, a son of the late Chipley and Eula (James) Whitfield. He was the husband of Cora Lee (Chapman) Whitfield and was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church of Inman.

He was retired from the US Air Force and served as a radar operator on reconnaissance aircraft over Vietnam. After his military career, he taught HVAC at Spartanburg Tech. and later worked at Mary Black Memorial Hospital in the Maintenance Dept.

Mr. Whitfield is survived by a step son, Robbie Johnson (Rima) of Inman, two step daughters, Paula Tyran of Savannah, Ga, Gennie Johnson of Fingerville, SC and a sister, Gail Patton (Carlton) of Knoxville, TN.
He was predeceased by a step son, Mark Johnson, four sisters, one brother and his faithful canine companion "Joy".

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 11th, 2015 in the sanctuary of Rock Hill Baptist Church of Inman from 1:00 to 2:45 PM. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Heyward Calvert & Rev.Everette Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with full military rites by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
