26 Oct. 1957: Franklin M. Hawk, 83, of Third and Ash sts. Cressona, died Friday at 10 p.m. in his home after an illness of 10 days. Mr. Hawk was born in Shippensburg, a son of the late James and Elizabeth Mell Hawk. A resident of Cressona for 40 years. He was the son of a Civil War Veteran who had been a member of Governor's Gaurd. Formerly a dairy farmer for M. S. Hershey, he later was employed by the Beckville Powder Plant, when the couple moved to Cressona. He was a car repairman for the Reading Railroad for many years. He retired in 1937. He and his wife, the former Virginia Bomgardner, observed their 63d wedding anniversary April 30. Mr. Hawk was a member of Plymouth Brethren. Surviving are his wife, the former Virginia Bomgardner: three sons and one daughter: Wilbert, of Halifax; Mrs. Edna Keller of Cressona; Arthur of North Wales and Lloyd of Pottsville: 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother Clarence of Lemoyne and two sisters: Mrs. Sadie Welliver and Mrs. Mame Bennett, both of Harrisburg. Funeral Tuesday afternoon from Bast and Detwiler Funeral Home, Schuykill Haven. Interment will be made in Cressona Cemetery. [Pottsville Republican]
