He married Thirsa Emeline Nay on his 23rd birthday, the 24th of Dec 1880 in Huntington, Emery County, UT. They had 9 children, 2 of which died as infants, the other 7 married with families. The two who died in infancy were the 1st David Alonzo who lived only a couple of hours, being born on the trail in Spanish Fork Canyon, Utah County, UT and was buried there; 5th James Edward also buried in Saint John Cemetery. The other 7 children were; 2 Anna Elizabeth, 3 Hannah Mae, 4 John Franklin, 6 William Alvin, 7 Millie Emeline, 8 Samuel Vernon, and 9 Angus Vaughn.
In the 1860 Census M653-1314 pg. 450C of Clover Settlement, Shambip County, UT Post Office Camp Floyd he is counted as Jno D with his mother Car McIntosh, and siblings Isc J, Mary A, and Wm M. The preceding house was that of his uncle Isc J Caldwell, before that was his uncle Wm McIntosh, and before that was uncle D H Caldwell.
In the 1870 Census M593-1612 p163A of St John, Tooele County, UT Post Office Stockton, he was counted in his step-father's household (George Dymock and son William) as John D Dymock with his mother Caroline and siblings Isaac J, Mary M, William and George E.
David was a stock and cattle raiser, finding cattle more lucrative, he and a cousin went together on opening the Mercur Meat and Produce Company in 1895 which he managed until his death, with the exception of his mission to the Southern States on 20 Apr 1896 which was cut short due to health problems; he was also the Justice of the Peace in 1889, but not sure when his term of office began and ended.
His short obituary was in the Tooele Transcript/Bulletin as follows: Death of a Mercur Man
Manager McIntosh of the Mercur Produce Company Passes Away.
Mercur, June 18: J. D. McIntosh manager of the Mercur Meat and Produce Company died suddenly today. He went to the slaughterhouse about a mile above town for a horse on which he intended to ride to Lehi after some beef cattle. This was about 6 a.m. At 7 o'clock Mr. McGee the butcher discovered him in the barn.
