Promoter, Manager and Producer. Born Charles Allen Dick, he was the widower of country legend Patsy Cline. He married her on Sept. 15, 1957, after meeting the singer the previous year after one of her performances. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. The couple, who would have two children together, remained married until her tragic death on March 5, 1963, in an airplane crash. With the relationships that he built in the industry through their marriage, he entered the music business on his own following her passing, working as a record promoter for several independent labels in Nashville throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He remarried in 1965 to singer Jamey Ryan, but the couple divorced in the early 1970s after having a son together. He founded and was president of Legacy, Inc., managing the legacy of Cline and became a pivotal part of keeping her music alive beginning with Beverly D’Angelo’s portrayal of the singer in the 1980 film 'Coal Miner’s Daughter'. The life and career of Cline was depicted in the 1985 film, 'Sweet Dreams', which starred Jessica Lange as Cline and Ed Harris in the role of Dick. He co-produced a pair of video documentaries on her life, 'The Real Patsy Cline' and 'Remembering Patsy', which led to the release of videos on the lives of such artists as Willie Nelson, Ernest Tubb and The Mamas & the Papas. Dick, who was a founding member of R.O.P.E. (Reunion Of Professional Entertainers) and a Circle Level Member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, died of natural causes.
