Born in Madison, she was raised in Ashtabula and had lived in Parma, South Amherst and Dayton before moving to Lewis Center in 1994.
Mrs. Butler was a 1939 graduate of Edgewood High School and graduated of Ashtabula General Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1942. She retired from nursing in 1973. She served as a U.S. Army nurse in the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II.
She was employed during her nursing career at St. Luke's Hospital,Cleveland; Allen Memorial Hospital,Oberlin, and Lorain Community Hospital, Lorain. She was also a private duty nurse.
As a member of St. John United Church of Christ, South Amherst, she was active with the Women's Guild and Couples Club, and was also member of the South Amherst American Legion Auxiliary Post 197.
Survivors include her son Donald "Bud" Butler of Lewis Center, Ohio.; a daughter, Linda Balogh of Grafton; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 five years, Donald L. Butler, Oct. 25, 1992; a brother, David P. Colvin in 1979; sisters Clara M. Mosher in 1983 and Betty Roberts, August 8, 2006; and her parents, Vilas William and Donna Ruth (Park) Colvin.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst, with the Rev. Elizabeth Terrell, pastor of Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ, Vermilion, officiating.
