Leah Jane was born in Dawson, Texas, to the late Aura K. and Mabel McCulloch Garner. She attended school in Dawson, graduating in 1937, then attended Hillsboro Junior College where she received a teaching certificate. During World War II, Jane was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in the small rural community of Pursley. She was a homemaker while her children were young, later returning to teach Special Education in the Dawson Schools for a number of years.
Neil D. Clark Sr. was finishing his World War II military service as a glider pilot in Europe when he married Jane Garner on August 7, 1945, in Corsicana. Jane was a loyal, lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Dawson, in charge of the membership for many years and was still active in United Methodist Women. She participated in the Order of the Eastern Star and Study Club in Dawson until they disbanded. Jane was an active, independent lady through her 96th birthday.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil, on July 28, 2000.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Clark, of Waco; son, Neil D. Clark, Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Hewitt; granddaughter, Amy Clark Reed and her husband, Jim, of Woodway; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Cole Meade, of Woodway; brother, James H. Garner and his wife, Betty, of Crowley; plus three nieces, a nephew, and other family including Sondra McCulloch DeGraffenried and Jill Turner Hall.
