He joined the U.S. Navy and was sent overseas to the Pacific where he remained for the duration of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mae B. and E Graveside service for Edwin Newton Davidson Jr., 79, of Decatur will be today, Aug. 24, 2006, at 10 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Mitchell Williams and Brad Eades officiating. A Masonic graveside service will follow with the Rev. Brady E. McCullough officiating.
Visitation will be today from 9 to 10 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home.
Mr. Davidson, who died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at Decatur General Hospital, was born Sept. 17, 1926, in Decatur to Mae B. and Edwin Newton Davidson Sr.. During the early 1940s, he moved with his parents to Charleston, S.C. After graduating from Chicera High School in Charleston, he joined the U.S. Navy and was sent overseas to the Pacific where he remained for the duration of World War II.
By the time he had completed his tour of duty, his parents had returned to Decatur and following his discharge from the Navy, he too returned to Decatur where he enrolled at Athens College. He was the owner of Davidson Plumbing Co. for approximately 50 years. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Good Fellowship Sunday school class and was also a member of Rising Sun Lodge No. 29, Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Davidson Riddle Christianson; and a brother, James William "Billy" Davidson.
Survivors include his wife, Fay Waldrop Davidson; one son, Ed Davidson III of Decatur; one daughter, Cheryl Edewaard of Summerville, S.C.; three granddaughters, Lauren and Ashley Edewaard of Summerville, and Ragan Davidson of Decatur; one grandson, Mitch Davidson of Decatur; and one sister, Libby Davidson Sandlin of Decatur.
Pallbearers will be Billy B. Cole, Archie Hampton, William Lindley, Maurice Means, Doug Rogers and Virgil Weaver.
