Charles Preston Siess Jr. - 1927-2015

Charles Preston Siess Jr. was born January 28, 1927 in Lake Charles, Louisiana and passed away November 5, 2015 at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
Charley spent his early years in his beloved Louisiana. He graduated from University High on the LSU campus in 1944. He attended L.S.U. for two semesters before joining the Navy in 1944 to serve in World War II. Charley returned to LSU in 1946 and completed his degree in Chemical Engineering in May of 1948.
His business career covered more than fifty years in the energy industry. It began in St. Louis Mo. as a Product Development Engineer with Petrolite Corp. During the next twenty years with Petrolite he lived and worked in many locations in the United States and South America including five years in Venezuela. Having departed Petrolite, Charley became Executive Vice President and a Director of Apco Oil Corp. Later as President and CEO he moved the headquarters of the company to Houston, Texas. During that period, he was a member of the National Petroleum Council of the Dept. of the Interior, Director of the American Petroleum Institute and The National Petroleum Refiners Association.
Charley joined Marathon Manufacturing Co. as President and Director in 1975. He remained President and CEO of Marathon and a Director of Penn Central Corporation after Marathon merged with Penn Central until his retirement in 1987. While Chairman of Marathon Manufacturing Co., he was a member of the Board of the National Ocean Industries Association serving as President from 1987-88. Charley was also honored during his business career as Director of Camco, Inc., and Fidelity Bank of Oklahoma City, Rowan Companies Inc., The Petroleum Club of Houston and was a member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers & the AIME Petroleum Engineering Division.
He was a life-long member of the LSU Alumni Association, Tiger Athletic Foundation and the LSU Foundation where he served as a Director and Association President in 2001. He and his wife Jean were Star level lifetime contributors to LSU and have an established Professorship in the School of Engineering.
During his brief retirement, he became a Director of Cabot Corp. of Boston, Massachusetts subsequently serving as Chairman and CEO for three years before retiring with his beloved wife Jean in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They eventually returned to Texas in 2008 and resided in Cordillera Ranch in Boerne, Texas.
Charley was preceded in death by his son, Kurt in 2004 and most recently his devoted wife, Jean on September 16, 2015.
He is survived by his son, Charles Preston Siess III and his wife Margaurite of Conroe, Texas, daughter-in-law Kathy Siess of Dallas, Texas, Lance Crawford and his wife Denise of Hunt, Texas, Thomas Muchard and wife Suzanne of Houston, Texas. Grandchildren Matthew Siess, Lauren & Charles Paul Siess, Kelon & Cheyenne Crawford, Macy & Wyatt Muchard, sister Marney and brother-in-law, Thomas Kepner of McKinney, Texas.
We wish to thank all the Doctors and ICU Hospital Staff of the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. We also wish to thank dear friend Brenda Tinsley.
Graveside Services are Tuesday, November 10th at 12pm at Boerne Cemetery with Memorial Services to follow at First Methodist Church, Boerne, Texas.
