Maggie Brown is interred in the family cemetery plot with Peter Henry and Nancy Jane Traner in theBaxter Cemetery- Section-D1- Baxter Springs, Kansas. The obituary for Maggie Brown was published in the Baxter Springs, Kansas newspaper on 1 May 1894. 'Mrs. Maggie Brown - the funeral services of Mrs Maggie Brown were held at the M.E. [Methodist Episcopal Church] church last Sunday at 11 o'clock. Rev Horner officiating and after services the remains were taken to the cemetery and interred. Mrs. Brown formerly resided at Baxter but at the time of her death was living at Kansas City. The body was brought in on the Gulf Saturday evening and taken to the undertaking establishment of Harvey and Son. Mrs Brown whose maiden name was Trainor [Traner], was born in Wisconsin in the year 1861 and her parents came to Baxter [Springs] in 1884. She was married here to Mr. Joseph Brown and shortly after marriage moved to Kansas City.’

The Traner's are listed in the 1900 Kansas City, Missouri census. See the section on Frank H. Traner for this census. The Traners lived at 2105 College Ave. There was a Joseph Brown, born December 1860, living next door to Frank and Ida Traner at 2107 College Ave. Joseph B. Brown was married to Maggie Traner. The Joseph married to Maggie was born in Nebraska. This next door neighbor Joseph Brown was married to Della who was born in February 1879. Joseph is listed as being born in Missouri in December 1860. They had been married for two years. They had a daughter, Myrtle, age 10. Myrtle was born in January 1890 in Missouri. Myrtle’s mother is listed as being born in Wisconsin, her father born in Missouri. Based on Della's birthdate Myrtle would have been a daughter by Joseph's first marriage, possibly to Maggie Traner. Maggie was born in Wisconsin. Joseph was a teamster, as was Frank H. Traner. In the 1895 Kansas City, City Directory Frank Traner, teamster, lived at 3410 E. 25th. Nancy J. Traner, widow of Peter H., lived at 1715 College. The 1889 – 91 Kansas City, Missouri City Directory lists a Joseph Brown, occupation teamster, living at 1617 Alexander StThe Maggie Traner who married Joseph B. Brown died at 1619 Alexander St. As related families frequently lived near each other this suggests that the Joseph Brown, married to Della, was the same Joseph Brown who was first married to Maggie Traner. It is also a possibility that Myrtle Brown was the daughter of Joseph B. and Maggie (Traner) Brown.

On page 34 of the 1 March 1885 Baxter Springs, Kansas census there is a: 'J.B. Brown, age 24, married, laborer, born in Nebraska, moved to Kansas from Nebraska, no military; Maggie Brown, age 24, married, born Wisconsin, moved to Kansas from Nebraska.'
