Barney's parents were HUGH COYLE and MARGARET SWEENEY, born Donegal, Ireland. They married in Mauch Chunk, PA (now known as Jim Thorpe) in 1853, right after they emigrated. They both died shortly after their only child, Barney Coyle, was born, and he went to live with aunts and uncles in Beaver Meadows, PA. Barney died in 1906 from miner's asthma, due to a lifetime of labor in the Beaver Meadow coal mines. He was 52. His wife, Mary COLE Coyle, died 5 years later, leaving 9 orphaned Coyle children behind, aged 29-9. The youngest Coyle was Edward Bernard Coyle I, 9 years old when his mother died. Little "Eddie" Coyle was raised by his 8 older brothers and sisters who worked in factories in order to pay his Lafayette College tuition.
