Dorothy Susan was born on April 29, 1930, in Enderlin, ND, the daughter of Rev. T.K. and Caroline Utke Herbener. She married Carl Herman Balvanz on December 27, 1949 in Oconomowoc, WI. She attended Wartburg College and worked for Iowa Electric as an administrative assistant, retiring in 1986.
Dorothy was an avid reader and loved to paint a variety of pieces to share with her friends and family. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed entertaining her family by playing the piano and the banjo. She and Carl loved to travel, fish, and golf with their friends. Dorothy made prayer shawls for Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and played the organ during services there for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl and two sisters LaVerne (Charles) Schneider and Carol (Ken) Olson.
