David Junius (Dave) Nielson of Bellevue, WA returned to his Father in Heaven on October 2, 2015, dying peacefully in his sleep from heart disease. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 29, 1943 to Darlene Ogden and Junius Nielson.
After the loss of his father when he was 9 and his mother when he was 14, David was raised by stepparents Alex Prankard and Helen "Bugs" Warden. David graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in aeronautical engineering and worked at the Boeing Company for 42 years. After designing military and commercial airplanes for most of his career, he traveled the world working on airport compatibility. David was an avid fisherman of ocean, lakes and rivers throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. He mentored prospective fishermen and served as president of the Overlake Fly Fishing Club. In the off-season, he engaged in family history research, played cribbage, and spoiled grandchildren with gummy bears and ice cream treats.
A lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, David married the "catch of his life" Sally Jane Gordon in the Logan, Utah Temple. He served the Boy Scouts for 30 years, helping his own four sons reach the rank of Eagle Scout. David and Sally actively pursued their passions for nature by climbing, skiing, hiking, diving, and fishing together.

David is preceded in death by his identical twin brother Douglas and his baby sister Diane. He is survived by his wife Sally, children Eric (Angela) Nielson, Christy (Michael) Van Orman, Mark Nielson, Michael (Lindsey) Nielson, Adam Nielson and 10 grandchildren, his brother Larry (Debbie) Nielson, and stepsisters, Cathy (Marty) Sangster and Lynda Gee.

A graveside service will be held at Mills & Mills Memorial Park in Tumwater, WA on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM. The memorial service will follow at 4:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bellevue.
