BIG SPRING -- Jess Slaughter, Jr., 81, of Midkiff, died on Monday, August 21, 2006, in a Midland hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with Cody Cochran, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born on July 12, 1925, in Big Spring, Texas. He married Eva Marie "Mickey" Mikels and she preceded him in death on December 26, 1976. He then married Mae Dell Eggemeyer on May 25, 1979 in Midkiff.

Jess was a farmer and rancher and raised horses. He was a calf roper and a member of the Pro Rodeo Cowboy Association and the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Dell Slaughter of Midkiff; three sons & two daughters-in-law, Jess and Jana Slaughter of Big Spring, John Ray Slaughter of Abilene and Jay and Teresa Slaughter of Cisco; eight grandchildren, Cody Slaughter and wife, Melissa, Wendy Frazier and husband, Justin, Morgan Slaughter, Taylor Slaughter, Zach Slaughter, Nathan Slaughter, Darren Slaughter and Justin Slaughter; one great grandchild, Jaylan Frazier; numerous nieces & nephews including Kay Stroh, Janie Denial and Richard Hurst.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess, Sr. and Eleanor Paxton Slaughter; one sister, Janice Hurst; and by a daughter-in-law, Glenda Slaughter.

Pallbearers will be Jody Nix, Johnny Middleton, Handley Driver, Sam Dillard, Ben Miller and Johnny Midkiff. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Griffith, Harry Middleton, Riley Miller, Bill Neal and Ray White.

The family suggests memorials to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund, 101 ProRodeo Dr., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919.
