Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces Funeral Services for Mr. Carol "Pete" Underwood, age 86, of Hiawassee, who passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at his home.
Carol Underwood (you probably knew him as Pete), entered eternal life on Tuesday, November 3. He wasn't a man given to much pomp and display - he was simple, and kind, and inherently stubborn. He was a man who knew what he wanted and would stand his ground in the face of anything that told he couldn't have it. It's a trait he passed down to his children and grandchildren and they believe this is a good thing (although their spouses may disagree....)
He loved his family, he loved his business, and he loved bluegrass music. He sang songs of the pain and beauty of the world and we, his family, feel a great loss that he will no longer sing in this life - but we know his voice now echoes in a better place - where we are also headed.
He will be dearly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Stockton) Underwood; daughter, Carol Jan Loftis; son & daughter-in-law, Dan Aaron & Tina Underwood; and sisters, Betty London, Blonde Edwards and Barbara Drew. Sharing in his legacy are his grandchildren: Christie Barker, Lacie Ford, April Ledford, and Matthew Loftis along with great grandchildren: Eliza Johnson, Christian Barker, Judah Ford, Finneas Loftis, Dylan Ledford and Alyssa Ledford.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee. Music will be presented by Tony & Lacie Ford. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Ronnie London, Dennis Fortner, Dylan Ledford, Matthew Loftis, Terry Gibson, and Tony McConnell. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Scott Edwards. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 until 8 p.m.
