Marion Akers Doss, 78, of Moorefield Store Road, Stuart, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at the Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Stuart.

He was born in Patrick County on Oct. 26, 1924, a son of the late Joseph R. Doss and the late Nannie L. Corns Doss.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Ervin, Clayton and Riley Doss.

He was a World War II Army veteran, had retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 35 years of service and was a member of the Cattleman's Association.

He was a member of Critz Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and trustee.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Elaine Hundley Doss of Stuart; a daughter, Cheryl D. Gunter of Stuart; one son, Steve K. Doss of Danville; three sisters, Ellie Griffin, Alice B. Sheppard and Clara Mitchell, all of Stuart; one brother, Delano Doss of Hampton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Critz Baptist Church with the Revs. Adam Woods and Billy Dixon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Howell Funeral Home, and at other times at the home on the Moorefield Store Road.
