Travis H. King, 87, of Nacogdoches passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on June 28, 1928, in Nacogdoches, the son of Joseph H. and Evie Renfro King. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home. Interment will be at Simpson Campground Cemetery following the service. Growing up in Woden, Travis attended Woden High School where he enjoyed playing basketball. It was there that he met the love of his life, Iva Jean. They were married Dec. 23, 1947, and were married 65 years until her passing in 2014. Travis enjoyed farming, logging and playing "42." He loved to laugh and make others laugh as well. Travis loved his Lord and Savior and was an avid church attendee. At the church, he served as a deacon, taught Sunday school and was also a song leader. Travis loved to sing and enjoyed spending time with his beloved family. He enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden and would give them to neighbors to enjoy. He and mother were known for their famous turnip greens and hot-water cornbread. Travis was survived by his brother, John "Bud" King of Woden; one son, Bobby King and wife, Darlene, of Etoile; daughters, Betty Sethman and husband, Bill, of Woden, and Mary Milstead and husband, Elton, of Etoile; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Iva Jean, sister, Sally Williams, and brother, Clyde King. Pallbearers for Travis will be his grandsons and nephews. The family of Travis King is being served by Laird Funeral Home of Nacogdoches.
