Theophilus was the son of James and Sarah Presson.

He moved to from North Carolina to what later became Benton CO, TN in 1831. Theophilus appears of the 1836 tax list, the first one for Benton CO, TN.

Theophilus married first to Louisa Rushing. Following the passing of his first wife, Theophilus married a widowed Mary (Bennett) Cole in Benton CO, TN on April 16, 1868.
Mary had married George Cole in Carroll CO, TN on June 4, 1857. They are shown living in Benton CO, TN in the 1860 Federal Census. Mary and George had two known children together. George died before January 1866, when Mary filed to administer his estate in Benton CO, TN, and the court laid out a year support for Mary and her family. Mary filed for settlement of the estate with the court in January 1868. The two Cole children are shown in the household of Theophilus Presson in the 1870 Federal Census.

Theophilus had children from his first marriage, and Theophius and his second wife, Mary, had five known children together. Some of these children are buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda, Jackson CO, IL, along with Theophilus' second wife, Mary.

Theophilus helped to found Prospect Methodist Church in Benton CO, TN.

He was elected Constable in Benton County's 6th District in 1848.

Theophilus was a Mason.

Burial location of Theophilus Presson is most likely the Prospect Methodist Church Cemetery, as this is the church he helped found, & was associated with, but the exact location of his burial is unknown, as his grave is no longer marked.
