Emily P. Gordon, age 90, of Gambier Road, Mount Vernon, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home. She was born on March 6, 1925 in Arnold, Pennsylvania the daughter of Robert and Ida (Morgan) Laughlin. Emily was a graduate of Arnold High School and on the evening of her graduation, May 22, 1944 she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Jack O. Gordon. Jack had come home on military pass to take his bride with him as he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Jack preceded her in death on March 4, 2014.

Emily was a long time member of Gay Street United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the Glora Wysner Circle of the United Methodist Women. She was a 50 plus year member and past Worthy Matron of Knox Chapter #236 Order of Eastern Star. She also sang in the Chapter’s Chorus and served as District Deputy.

Emily was a member and past secretary of the Abraham Lincoln Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Lincoln, Illinois. She was employed for several years at the Citizens Building Loan and Savings in Mount Vernon.

She is survived by her son, Kevin (Judy) Gordon of Atlanta, Georgia, a daughter, Deborah Massa of Mount Vernon, two step grandchildren, Eric (Vicky) Massa of Mount Vernon and Debra Conn of Mount Vernon and four step great grandchildren.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jack O. Gordon, a son-in-law, Roger “Bud” Massa, three sisters and two brothers.

Friends may call on Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio where an Eastern Star service will begin at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Rev. John Capper will be officiating. Entombment will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
