NOTE: On September 18, 2015, the Lincoln County EMS was called to a home on the 7600 block of Sifford Road in Stanley, NC. There they found Janet Groner Armstrong, 72, who had been bedridden for nine months, lying in her own excrement. She had bed sores all over her body and had a deep open leg wound that was covered with maggots. She used to work at a church’s daycare. She had started refusing to see visitors and wouldn’t let anyone in the home. She lived in the home with her husband, Bobby Dean Armstrong who was her caregiver. The couple had no children and no close relatives. Her injuries were from a lack of medical attention. She was taken to the hospital where she died the following day. Bobby Dean Armstrong, 72, has been charged with one felony count of neglect of a disabled/elderly person with a serious injury.
