Mrs. Sandra Ann Gilbert, age 68, of the Dawnville Community in Whitfield County, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday morning, November 4, 2015 at the local hospital. Sandra was born April 6, 1947 in Dalton, Georgia, daughter of the late William Granville and Macile Sophie Rogers Smith. Sandra was a 1966 graduate of Eastbrook High School and worked many years at the Tappan Microwave Oven Company. Sandra suffered from diabetes and was legally blind for the past ten years. She enjoyed listening to western and Daniel Boone movies. Sandra was a very sweet person and loved to talk.
She is survived by her high school sweet heart and the love of her life, Buell Gilbert, and just celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, September 4, 2015; daughters and sons-in-law, Tracey and Eddie Baynes, Denise and Ike Womac; grandchildren, Sarah Womac, Emily Murphree, Valerie Murphree, Isabelle Murphree, Jeff Pruitt, Amy Pruitt, Zach Williams and Brittney Baynes; great-grandson, Grayson Pruitt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mitchell and Alma Smith, James Warren Smith, Phillip Lloyd and Sandy Smith; mother-in-law, Isabelle Gilbert; several nieces and nephews.
Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Sandra Ann Gilbert will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with her first cousin, Reverend Charles Rogers officiating. She will be laid to rest at United Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and after 11:00 a.m. Saturday until the service hour.
