His Obituary from the Moberly Monitor-Index and Evening Democrat of Monday October 15, 1945, stated: J. (Jack) Hendren, 88, died at 1:05 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home of his son, W. S. Hendren, 6 miles northwest of Moberly, after a few days of illness. Mr. Hendren was born in Kentucky on December 6, 1856. In 1883, he married Lizzie Kanatzar, who preceded him in death on February 23, 1921. Four sons were born to this union---W. S. Hendren, near Moberly; Andy Hendren, Los Angeles, Calif.; Jesse Hendren, 307 McKenzie street, and Cecil Hendren, Macon. In 1922, Mr. Hendren was married to Lucy Swetnam, who died in February 1943. Besides the four sons, he is survived by two brothers and a sister who remained in Kentucky, 26 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and number of nieces and nephews. The body will remain at the home of his grandson, Odis Hendren, 609 McKinley avenue, until the funeral hour. Services will be conducted at the First Christian church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. George Poe, Huntsville. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery 12 miles south of Moberly.
His headstone was replaced at some point and there is an error. His name was NOT Andrew Jackson Hendren. It was Ashford Jackson Hendren. Ashford went by "Jack." The original tombstone may have said A. Jack Hendren or A. Jackson Hendren.
