Charlie was the son of George Martin Howser and Eliza Kellum. He was one of seven children and all but his brother Jesse Howser and Mary Gatts passed away before him.

He married Emma Elizabeth Kearns on December 23, 1904 and they had two children, Thomas Wesley Howser and Addie Louise Howser (Behle).

Everyone knew him as "Pop". He died in 1959 after just celebrating his 80th birthday.
