Prime Minister of Poland. Kiszczak served as the last Communist prime minister of Poland from August 2, 1989 to August 19, 1989. He joined the Polish army in 1945 and worked his way up the hierarchy of the military. Kiszczak occupied high positions in the Polish military and secret services from the late 1960s until being appointed Minister of Internal Affairs in 1981. While serving in this position, he also served as prime minister under President Wojciech Jaruzelski during August of 1989 before the first non-communist prime minister since 1946, Tadeusz Mazowiecki, took over. In 2004 Kiszczak received a two year suspended sentence for his actions during a coal miners' strike in 1981.
