US Congressman. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1907 to 1919, representing the state of Illinois. He served as chairman of the Committee on Mines and Mining. Prior to joining Congress he served as the Mayor of Olney, Illinois in 1895 and 1902. He was a graduate of the Eclectic Medical Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio and the Hannemann Medical College in Chicago Illinois. He was a board certified surgeon from 1885 to 1889 and from 1893 to 1897. He was defeated for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1918. He returned to the practice of medicine following his defeat and was a physician at the time of his death.
