Gilbert "Gilly" DeBroux, 88, Wausau, died Tuesday November 3, 2015 at Copperleaf Assisted Living, Schofield.He was born May 31, 1927, in Phlox, son of the late Andrew and Appolonia (VonBoxtel) DeBroux. Gilbert was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. On October 18, 1947, he married Eileen Robinson at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Phlox, after his return from military service. She preceded him in death June 7, 2001.Gilbert grew up on a large farm and at a young age was taught to work hard. This work ethic was instilled in his children at an early age. For several years, Gilbert had been employed at the former Super 29 Grocery Store. After retiring, he was employed for several years at Peoples State Bank. Among his favorite pastimes were, camping and softball. He was an avid gardener, Packer fan and enjoyed spending time with his family. Gilbert was also a volunteer at Bethesda Thrift Shop for over 30 years.Survivors include nine children, Michael (Judi) DeBroux, Shawano, Diane Philipp, Rothschild, Cathy (Bob) Patterson, Sterling, Alaska, Janet Laska, Weston, Debbie (Randal) Knapp, Wausau, Patricia DeBroux, Wausau, Jeff (Cindy) DeBroux, Weston, Scott (Terri) DeBroux, Wausau, Eugene (Nicole) DeBroux, Hatley, 21 grandchildren, 27great grandchildren, one great great grandson, siblings, Florence (Bob) Bures, Deerbrook and Rosella (Tom) Waldvogel, Aniwa.Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice DeBroux, two grandsons, Tyler and Joshua DeBroux and 15 siblings.The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday Nov. 7, 2015 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Daniel Thelen will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
