Our beloved mother and grandmother, Billie Ruth (Lee) Bates, of Blossom went to her eternal home on November 3, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. She died at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 15, 1934, in the Post Oak community, and was the daughter of John William "Bill" and Rhoda Lou Lee. She married Alvis Bates on Sept. 5, 1953, in Mount Pleasant. Billie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who prayed unselfishly for her family. She was a member of East Post Oak Missionary Baptist Church for over sixty-nine years where she attended all of her life. Kingdom work was her passion. Billie Ruth retired in 1992 from Blossom Elementary School after 16 years of service in the cafeteria and was remembered by many students whose lives she impacted. Billie Ruth previously worked at Westinghouse. She served tirelessly and selflessly in her church and to her Lord and was a pillar in the community. Billie was a trusted and loyal friend to many and felt it was her duty to care for the less fortunate. All who knew her were blessed by her loving heart and kind spirit. Even in death, she continues to be a beacon for her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wallace Lee and Wilbourne Lee and infant brother; and her husband Alvis Bates of 53 years. Survivors include her two children, daughter Pattie Bates and son Mark Bates and wife, Tammie. Grandchildren are Lisa Mullens and spouse, Paul, Chad Long and spouse Ginger, Amanda Long, Stephanie (Nickie) Hutchings and spouse Erik, Aaron Bates and spouse Angela, and Leah Morales and spouse Edgar. Her 12 precious and greatly blessed great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren will miss her dearly. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
