Jerry D. Smith, 58, of Flat Rock died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Pardee Hospital.


Born in Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Harold Dewayne Smith and Edna Lenora Hensley Smith.

Before moving to Henderson County in 1991, he had resided in Houston. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Alice Smith, of Flat Rock; two sons, Paul Martin of Brighton, Tenn., and Patrick Smith of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; four stepdaughters, Fran Berger of Hendersonville, Kristy Taylor of Fletcher, Denise Matthews of Lyman, S.C., and Janice Thompson of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Hilda Cronin of Canton; one brother, H. D. Smith of Virginia Beach, Va.; 14 grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home.Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shuler Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adam's Way, Randleman, NC 27317.
