LaVerne Alderman, 99, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2015. Graveside services will be at 2:00p.m., Thursday, November 5, 2015 in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery with Ferris Akins, Pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church of Winters, Texas officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South, Abilene. Visitation will be at the funeral home at 1:00p.m. on Thursday prior to the graveside service.

LaVerne was born on November 22, 1915 in Fisher County, Texas to the late Ferris Emmett Akins and Bessie Cozart. LaVerne attended Abilene schools and graduated from Abilene High School in 1934. She married Ellsworth Alderman on December 1, 1943 in Maryland before making Abilene her home for most of her life. LaVerne worked for T.S. Lankford Co. for 8 years, Abilene Independent School District in food service for 9 years, and after 15 years as manager of food service at Abilene State School, she retired in 1980. She was a member of South Side Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ellsworth who was killed defending our country during the Korean Conflict in 1950; and three brothers, W.C. Akins, Don Akins, and Gerald Akins.

Survivors include her son, David L. Alderman and wife, Janice of Odessa; two brothers, Cozy Akins of Granbury, and Neal Akins of North Richland Hills; one granddaughter, Julie Alderman Brandt and husband, William; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis of Houston; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any local hospice provider or to the Alzheimer's Association .
