James was born July 1, 1933, in Springfield, the son of John and Nita Chalmers Moffett.
James was a graduate of St. Patrick's Grade School and Feitshans High School; he worked as an engineer for Illinois Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1986. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955.
James enjoyed golf, and was a Khoury League baseball and Christ the King basketball coach.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Joseph Moffett; and son, James Martin Moffett, Jr.
He is survived by his children: Jeanne , Theresa, Daniel and Mark;; nine grandchildren:fett; one great-grandson, Ethan; two brothers, Michael and Robert; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
