Norene Calton Smith, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 4, 2007. We know our precious mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend is lovingly in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Norene was born August 17, 1920 to parents Royal Calton and Agnes Mary Jones. She married Arthur C. Smith on May 5, 1944. Her parents told her she came into this world at the same time as the sound of thunder and a bolt of lightning. The bolt of lightning signified the way she lived her life; always quick and on the go. Mom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many different callings which included serving as a Jordan River temple worker for approximately 17 years. She loved our Savior and had a strong testimony of prayer. Norene leaves behind a legacy of exemplary compassion for others. She attended Salt Lake schools, graduating from West High School. She enjoyed her extra-curricular activities which included participating in several plays with singing, dancing, etc. Norene is survived by children Brent Smith and wife Lori of Springville, Clint Smith and wife Sarah of Salt Lake, Marlene Ellis and the late EuGene Ellis of West Jordan; her brother Roy Calton; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two children, brother Jack Calton, son-in-law, grandson, and life-long best friend Erma Albertson. Her life evolved around her family. She not only served her family, she served others by being their adopted Grandma. What a joy it has been to her daughter Marlene and her family to have had Norene live with them for the last 28 years with much attentiveness from her two sons, Brent and Clint, and their families. We will miss her greatly. Funeral services for Norene will be held at her former ward, the River Oaks 1st Ward located at 8825 S. 1095 W. West Jordan, Utah, on Monday January 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Her family will receive visitors at the same location Sunday January 7, 2007 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 - 10:40 a.m. the morning of the funeral. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
