AGE: 98 • Formerly of Wall

John Forman Applegate, age 98 formerly of Wall, NJ passed away on Thursday, August 13th . John was born on November 26, 1916 in Red Bank, NJ to Richard and Mabel Cook Applegate.

He raised his family in Wall, where he resided for over 70 years, until moving to Brick 5 years ago. During his career, he was a railroad engineer with Pennsylvania Conrail until his retirement. In his leisure time he was a member of the North Shore Antique Auto Club, the Founders of New Jersey, the New Jersey State Sons of the American Revolution, the Manasquan Friends Meeting, and the Durand Masonic Lodge of Point Pleasant Beach. He volunteered at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania located in Strasburg.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty (nee Johnson) Applegate in 2006; and by his brothers Charles and Harold Applegate. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Joan and Robert Lane of Brick. Also survived by his three grandchildren, Katherine Suskevich, Donna Brower, and Suzanne Lane; and by his four great-grandchildren, Robyn Suskevich, Alexander Brower, Samuel Brower, and Laura Brower.

The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, August 16th from 3-7 PM at Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach. The internment will be privately held. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015, 11:00am at the Manasquan Friends Meeting House on Rt. 35 on the Manasquan Circle. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in John's memory to Manasquan Friends Meeting House P.O. Box 522 Manasquan, NJ 08736.
