Etta was born in the Friedens Church Community of Guilford County, North Carolina. She worked for McEwen Hosiery Mill in Burlington, in the 1930s. During that time she and her husband, George, made their home in Gibsonville while caring for her father, Frank Allred. Etta and George moved to Reidsville, NC, in 1958 where they operated the Reidsville Sign Service. Etta was an active member of Lowe’s United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed being outdoors and working in her yard. She is remembered for making chocolate pies that were always the special dessert at family gatherings. Etta was preceded in death by her husband, George Daniel Prook, Sr., her brothers Fred Allred, Johnny Allred and Walter Allred, and her sister Mae A. (nee, Allred) Elliot.
