He married Elizabeth Nikkel on December 17, 1941, at the Sully Christian Reformed Church parsonage. He lived most of his life on the farm near Searsboro and the last four years in Pella. He was a retired farmer. He enjoyed attending auctions and collecting antique tools.
He was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. He was a former member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church and Sully Christian School Board.
John 85, of Pella, died on Tuesday, November 27, 2001, at Pella Regional Health Center - Sheltered Care Unit.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother, Henry Vander Weerdt; another brother, Brandt Vander Weerdt; and a sister, Anna Hardeman.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Vander Weerdt of Pella; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Sherwin Koopmans of Tucson, Ariz. and Lorraine and David Weavers of Oostburg, Wis.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Connie Vander Weerdt of Kellogg, Stanley and Bonita Vander Weerdt of Searsboro, and Randall and Krista Vander Weerdt of Sully; and 16 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Pella Regional Health Center - Sheltered Care Unit.
Arrangements were made by Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
