James was born March 18, 1940, in Youngstown, a son of the late Daniel and Agnes Vargo Nagy, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1958 graduate of Chaney High School, where he starred on the basketball team, earning All-City honors in 1958. Jim served his country in the Fifth United States Army, and subsequently worked for 34 years for Syro Steel, retiring in 1996.
Jim served as president of the Chaney High School Baseball Club for 28 years, and he was the impetus behind Chaney having the only junior varsity baseball team among the city schools. He also operated a concession trailer for Chaney football games and track meets.
He enjoyed drag-racing, especially the “Halloween Classic” held in Norwalk, and he loved woodworking and carpentry, building many garages throughout the area. He also enjoyed the family vacations spent at Longbow Lake in Canada.
Most of all, Jim truly loved his wife, sons, and grandchildren, and he immensely enjoyed spending time with his family. He was his wife’s “right hand” and “co-pilot,” and he thoroughly enjoyed attending his sons’ and grandchildren’s sporting events.
Mr. Nagy was a member of Hungarian United Presbyterian Church.
Jim leaves his beloved wife of 54 years, Arlene Margosiak Nagy, whom he married Sept. 14, 1961; three sons, Gary (Teresa) Nagy of Diamond, James (Renee) Nagy of Canfield, and Alex (Patty) Nagy of Hadley, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Nancy (Kory) Cooper, Matthew (Kate) Nagy, Michael (Holly) Nagy, James, Zachary, Ryan, Alexis, and Sarah Nagy; and his brother, Daniel Nagy of Poland.
A sister, Louise McGinnis, is deceased.
