Peggy Birkes and Harmon Horn ware married in Madison County, Alabama, on 30 August 1814, according to Harmon's War of 1812 pension record. She was born about 1795 in Georgia or Alabama and died in Illinois about 1831. Her burial location is not currently known but may have been Wayne or Wabash County, Illinois.

The family was said to have moved to the mountains of Arkansas in the 1830s because so many of their children were dying of malaria in Illinois.
