Patty Hennen passed from this world, ending an illness that she had fought valiantly for eight months. She was a beautiful, gracious, gifted young woman. The loss is great, not to her family only, but to all who knew her.
She was an impressively skilled pianist, yet, to many, her remarkable voice was her true instrument. During her six years at Lincoln Junior and Stonewall Jackson High Schools in Charleston, she sang in the choruses, the Glee club, and was a member of Stonewall Jackson's prestigious Madrigal Singers, a group of the school's most talented students who, harking back to the ancient medieval tradition, sang complicated and intricate melodies completely acapella.
An excellent student, Patty was inducted into the National Honour Society in both schools. She served on the Student Councils and was a member of a number of student clubs.
She was a cheerleader at both Lincoln and Stonewall.
Patty, as she was called, was full of promise for the future, and had succeeded dramatically in all that she had done. Who could possibly have known that her life would be so brutally cut short, leaving her young husband alone, with no children to carry her heritage on into future generations? Who could have caught a glimpse of the shocking bereavement of her devoted parents, left childless, never to embrace the gift of grandchildren, all their hopes and dreams for their beloved daughter dashed to pieces in her death?
