Douglas M. Nichols, Sr., 73, of Pensacola, FL Born at Ft. Barrancas passed away October 30, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He retired from the United States Army with over 20 years of service to his country. He was a Staff Sergeant with the 101st Airborn Division in Fort Campbell, KY where he served several tours during the Vietnam Conflict as a Crew Chief and Door Gunner on his beloved UH-1 Helicopter.He also worked for Monsanto for 17 years. He was a devoted member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He was a honored veteran and very proud of his families military heritage. He was also an avid FSU fan. He was a private man who loved his family, Country and God.Doulgas was preceded in death by his parents, Leon H. and Frances E. Nichols and brother, William L. Nichols.He is survived by son, Douglas M. Nichols, Jr. (Lori); four grandchildren, Amber Dawson, Merissa Brylski, Eric Dawson, and Kelsy Nichols; one great-granddaughter, Braelyn Dawson; three siblings, Robert H. "Bob" Nichols (Anke), Frances Y. "Sandy" Jones (Randy), and Gary A. Nichols (Claudia); three uncles, William "Bill" Foxworth (Nancy), Larry Foxworth, and C.C. Clark and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.The graveside service will be Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 1:15 pm at Barrancas National Cemetery.
