Barbara Ruth Urness, 73, of Rochester, MN died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 28, 2015.

Barbara was born on December 13, 1941 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Ordean and Ruth Egland. She attended Bloomington High School and later earned a degree in Business at Southwest State University in Marshall Minnesota.

In 1962, Barbara married Gerald Boyer. They had two children.

In early 1960’s, Barbara went to work for her father at Modern Metals Foundry in Bloomington. She started out as a Bookkeeper and finished there as the CEO. Modern Metals Foundry was a family business that her father started in 1945. The foundry made alloy castings for industrial businesses.

After working at the family business, Barbara and Gerald moved to Marshall, MN where she worked at JC Penny’s and eventually was the bookkeeper at Kaiser Beverage Company that they purchased together.

In the spring of 2015, Barbara moved to Rochester so she could spend quality time with her son Scott. They enjoyed many good times together doing things like getting her settled in her new Rochester home, grilling out, sitting by the fire, boating, and going for walks with her dog Daisy.

Barbara enjoyed reading. She was a member of the Book Break Book Club in Monticello, MN where she made many good friends. She had a great sense of humor and her friends commented that her laugh was contagious. She led an active lifestyle enjoying water aerobics and yoga. She also enjoyed watching the wildlife at her new home. Hummingbirds were especially interesting to her.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.
