She then went to Chelsae, MI with a friend to be a “Rosie Riveter” at a defense plant. Doris returned to Winona and was united in marriage to Robert Bay on October 26, 1944. They had a daughter, Barbara.
Over the years Doris worked at Lake Center Switch, Camera Art, Randall’s and Red Owl grocery stores. They were members of Calvary Bible Church and later the Pleasant Valley Free Church. She enjoyed her years as “Rusty” at Grindstone Lake Bible Camp.
Doris moved to Slayton, MN shortly after Bob’s death in June of 2008 to be near her family. She lived in the Westside Apartments and then the Slayton Golden Living Center.
Doris passed away on October 31, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Slayton, MN at the age of 91.
She enjoyed birds, watching sports on TV, especially the Twins, Vikings and Gophers, doing word puzzles and her great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Dick (Marie) Ashley.
