Ed was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business. He hailed from humble beginnings and worked his way to and through college by earning a scholarship and working part-time jobs. When his younger brother was admitted to the University of Pennsylvania without tuition assistance, Ed arranged with school officials to have half of his own scholarship awarded to George. Following graduation, Ed had a long career as an accountant with the Western Electric Company. A WWII veteran, he was drafted into the army in 1941 and served until 1945, almost five years. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
