George Leo was an artist and painter who emigrated to the United States with his family in 1831 at the age of six. Eventually the family settled in Cincinnati, Ohio and all became artists of note. George married Laura S. Peters in Cook County, Ill. on February 2 1857.(His wife passed away sometime before 1880). In the Civil War he served as a private(musician) in Company C of the 79th Indiana. After the War he ventured to several battlefields to paint landscapes of the scenes where military action took place and is particularly known for his paintings of the Gettysburg Battlefield. In his later years he became a resident in the Pringle Memorial Home(home for the aged) in Poughkeepsie, NY.
